Charles Colthurst Holland qualified as an electrical and mechanical engineer. He graduated from Christ College, Cambridge. He attained the rank of Captain in the Royal Army Service Corps and served in Mesopotamia during World War 1. He was a partner in the pottery firm of Dunn, Bennett & Co. Ltd., and Director of the White Moss Colliery Co. Ltd., Congleton, Cheshire.
