C.M.G., 1899, retired. Born 11 Sep. 1850, son of the late Rev. C.H. Mainwaring of Whitmore, Stafford. Married 1880 Evelyn Louisa Jane, daughter of late Captain Mervyn Archdale. Educated Marlborough. Entered Army, 1871; Colonel 1899; served Gold Coast, 1873 (Ashanti Medal); Burmese Expedition 1885-86; commanded expedition from Bhanio Mogoumg 1886 (medal with clasp); served Hazara expedition 1891; commanded 2nd Bn. Royal Wesh Fusiliers, Crete 1898 (Bt. of Col., C.M.G.) A.A.G. Portsmouth 1899, South Africa 1899-1900 (despatches, Queens medal with 2 clasps), commanded 23rd Regimental District 1900-1906; 68th Welsh Division 1915-17.
