Succeeded to the estate of Down Hall, Essex, on the accession of his brother, Sir Charles, to the Ibbetson estates, and took the name of Selwin under the will of his maternal great-uncle, Thomas Selwin, of Down Hall, Hatfield Broad Oak [ Essex], by Royal licence, Sept. 3, 1825.

Succeeded his nephew, Sir Charles Henry Ibbetson, as 6th Bart., July 6, 1861.
