Notes for Thomas GRIFFITH
Living 1650 in Penpompren, (or Penbontbren) Llanfihangel Genau’r-glyn parish, Cardiganshire. The Arms of Griffith (Arg. a lion passant sa. between three fleur de lys gu langued of the second) show descent from Einion ap Siesyllt Lord of Merionydd born c1170, and Seisyllt ap Ednowain, Lord of Mathavarn, descended from (legendary) Gwyddno Garanhir, Lord of Cantref Gwaelod (or King of Cardigan) in common with the families of Pryce, Perkins and Pugh and the “men of Kivelioc” (Cyveiliog), Dyfnwal Hen, a King of Strathclyde and ultimately Macsen Wledig, or Magnus Clemens Maximus (ca. 335–August 28, 388),a Hispano-Roman usurper of the Western Roman Empire

As with the descendants of Coel Hen they were considered “Gwyr y Gogledd” or men of the North.
