Notes for John WILLIAMS
Of Halton, Chirk, near Wrexham. His Will dated 1703 is in the National Library of Wales. Mary Williams, his daughter, although a minor, was his sole executrix. In the Will he leaves forty shillings to the poor of Llangollen where he was born and very large sums (£300-400) to his three daughters and son.
He appears only to have lived briefly at Halton towards the end of his life as his daughters do not appear in the baptism registers (although the Chirk registers which cover Halton are very patchy at that period) . He was also very wealthy despite dying relatively young so it may well be that he was a wealthy local mercer.
He was the executor of the will of Mary Pritchard dated Feb 1699/1700, the widow of Thomas Pritchard Chief Agent of Chirk Castle where he is described as “my dear nephew-in-law huband of my neece late deceased”
